"Rhombic Dodecahedron" by EDV - 08/07/2024

Description
This curious geometric solid is built with 14 identical rhombic faces of identical sized edges where the long diagonal drawn on its face is the square root of 2 (~ 1.414...) larger than its small diagonal.
It has 24 identical edges, 14 vertices (of 2 kinds where 7 join 4 edges and 7 join 3 edges).
This Meccano version is built with 4" rods, bent rod and strip connectors #212 and bolts and nuts. In order to build it is mandatory to use #212 s bent with the correct angle. Obviously the shape of the faces have to obey the root of 2 factor mentioned between the long and short diagonal of the rhombic faces.
Its most interesting property is that, like identical cubes, identical such solids can pack the space leaving no gap between them.
I drew with Virtual Mec a Meccano model that has rods as edges that behave like a skeleton of its shape.
